Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed: October 26, 2026
On-Call Legal wants everyone to be able to use our website, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We have not confirmed that every page meets it yet, and we list the issues we know about below.
What we have done
- Built the site with semantic HTML, labelled form fields and text alternatives for images.
- Tested keyboard use (Tab order, menus, dialogs and forms) and visible focus styles in the Chromium, Firefox and WebKit browser engines.
- Tested key page types with automated accessibility checks (axe, WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules) at desktop and mobile widths, in the light and dark display themes, in October 2026.
- Held back maps and videos until you choose to open them, so they do not load or play unexpectedly.
This statement is based on our own testing. It is not a third-party audit, and we have not yet tested the site with a screen reader.
Accessibility widget
The site offers the UserWay accessibility widget (text size, contrast, cursor and similar settings). It is optional, and the website does not depend on it. UserWay is a third-party service, so it loads only when you select the “Accessibility menu” button and you have allowed “Functional” cookies. If Functional cookies are off, the button opens your cookie choices instead. You can change that choice at any time under “Cookie preferences” at the bottom of every page.
Known limitations
We know about the following issues and are working on them:
- Some pages skip a heading level, for example going from the page title straight to a third-level heading.
- Content from other providers is not under our full control and may not meet WCAG 2.1 AA:
- Google Maps on our city pages (opened with the “Show map” button);
- YouTube videos, where caption quality depends on YouTube;
- the ApexChat live chat window;
- court forms (PDF) and court websites we link to, which are published by the Judicial Council of California and the courts;
- our online ordering portal at securedocumentportal.net, which is a separate system from this website.
- Some older articles include images or tables that were carried over from our previous website and may have less detailed text alternatives.
If any of these stops you from doing something, contact us and we will help another way, for example by taking your order or answering your question by phone or email.
