Riverside County Superior Court makes lawyers submit civil papers electronically, and we do that for you via an approved EFSP, or hand-carry paper before the 4:00 p.m. counter and drop-box cutoff. Each original pleading carries a Certificate of Counsel naming the proper branch, and the clerk-endorsed copy comes to you after acceptance.

Court Filing in Riverside, CA

Riverside County changed where civil papers go on August 1, 2026. Under the court’s administrative order, unlimited civil cases are filed at the Riverside Historic Courthouse, the Palm Springs Courthouse or the Menifee Justice Center, and unlimited cases from Lake Elsinore, Hemet, Winchester, Homeland, Wildomar and Murrieta now go to the Historic Courthouse. A filing sent to the old location, a fee short by one motion or a caption without the Certificate of Counsel is enough for a clerk to reject the document, and the clerk does not have to warn you before your deadline runs.

On-Call Legal files through a state-approved Electronic Filing Service Provider and on paper at the courthouse counter, and we pick the right channel before your document moves. Most represented parties now file electronically under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6, while exempt parties and certain document types still go on paper. We check the venue, the fee, and the format on our end, because catching a problem before submission costs minutes and catching it at the clerk’s window can cost a day.

Once the court accepts a filing, we return the file-stamped conformed copy. If a clerk rejects it, you hear the reason and the fix from us. Alongside filing, we also serve the documents you file, so a summons can be filed and served through one office. In Riverside, Local Rule 3118 has required represented parties to e-file in limited and unlimited civil cases, unlawful detainers included, since January 1, 2022.

Riverside County Courthouses We File In

On-Call Legal files at the civil courthouses the Riverside Superior Court designates, from the Historic Courthouse on Main Street to Menifee and Palm Springs. Filing at a location the court’s order no longer uses is one of the most common reasons a document bounces, so we confirm the venue first. The court lists these locations, among others:

Riverside Historic Courthouse

4050 Main St., Riverside, CA 92501

Civil and probate; unlimited cases for the western county, plus all complex cases, class actions and CEQA writs.

Menifee Justice Center

27401 Menifee Center Dr., Menifee, CA 92584

Civil, evictions, family law and small claims; unlimited cases from Aguanga, Anza, Menifee and Temecula zip codes.

Palm Springs Courthouse

3255 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262

Unlimited and limited civil, evictions, small claims and probate for the desert region.

Moreno Valley Courthouse

13800 Heacock St., Bldg. D #201, Moreno Valley

Limited civil, small claims and unlawful detainers, including those once filed in Banning.

The team files complaints, motions, ex parte applications, answers and proposed orders at the courthouse the administrative order assigns, and later documents in a case go to the same courthouse under Local Rule 3115. Complex cases, class actions and CEQA writs are filed at the Historic Courthouse. Our coverage runs countywide.

Court Filing Services We Handle in Riverside

On-Call Legal files the full range of California civil documents. Each type carries its own fee, format, and timing rules, and we check all three before a filing leaves our hands. Here is what we take off your desk:

Complaints and Initiating Documents

Filed with the summons and any first-appearance fees the clerk collects, at the courthouse your case is assigned to. Original pleadings carry a Certificate of Counsel designating the proper branch, under Local Rule 3117.

Motions, Oppositions, and Replies

Filed to hit the notice periods your hearing date depends on under Code of Civil Procedure section 1005. The hearing is reserved through the Court Reservation System, and the moving papers follow within ten court days or the reservation is cancelled.

Ex Parte Applications

Filed on short notice where timing is measured in hours rather than days. Riverside requires the application to be filed by 11:00 a.m. the court day before the hearing, through e-filing, unless it is filed with a new complaint at the counter.

Answers, Demurrers, and Cross-Complaints

Filed against a service-triggered response deadline so the clock starts clean. Later documents go to the same courthouse as the original filing, under Local Rule 3115.

Proposed Orders, Stipulations, and Judgments

Submitted for the court to review and sign after filing. Lead documents go in their own electronic envelope, as General Order 2022-1 requires.

Physical Exhibits and Lodged Materials

Hand-delivered to the clerk when an e-filing portal will not accept them. Riverside keeps trial exhibits, bonds, undertakings, notices of appeal and documents lodged with a Notice of Lodgment on paper.

If you are not sure which filing your case needs, send us the document and we confirm the venue, the fee, and the format before it goes to the clerk. Call us or order online to get started.

Why On-Call Legal for Court Filing in Riverside

Attorneys and paralegals hiring a Riverside filing service care about three things: getting the document to the right courthouse, meeting the format and fee rules, and hearing about a rejection in time to fix it. On-Call Legal files under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6 for electronic filing and follows each courthouse’s local rules for paper filings. We watch every submission to acceptance and flag a bounce when it comes up. Beyond court filing, the same office serves the documents you file, handles eFiling, retrieves records, prepares subpoenas, and runs messenger runs across Riverside County. On-Call Legal is also on the Riverside Superior Court’s list of approved e-filing providers.

Rush court filing in Riverside

Rush Filing

Standard jobs go in at the next available window, and rush moves you ahead in the queue when an ex parte or other deadline is close. Under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6, an e-filing that reaches the court before midnight on a court day is deemed filed that day, so a deadline can still be met after the clerk’s counter closes. Riverside’s cutoff for documents filed in person or through courthouse drop boxes is 4:00 p.m.

eFiling through an approved provider

eFiling Through Approved Providers

The Riverside County Superior Court does not accept e-filings directly. Under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6 you file through an approved Electronic Filing Service Provider, and represented parties must file most civil documents this way. We file through an approved EFSP, formatted the way the portal expects and paired with the fee the document type requires. On-Call Legal appears on the Riverside Superior Court’s list of approved e-filing service providers.

Filing at all Riverside courthouses

Every Riverside Filing Location Covered

Unlimited civil cases are filed at the Riverside Historic Courthouse, the Palm Springs Courthouse or the Menifee Justice Center, and limited cases at Corona, Moreno Valley, Palm Springs, Blythe or Menifee, under the order effective August 1, 2026. Small claims and unlawful detainers once filed in Banning now go to Moreno Valley. We confirm the courthouse from the case number or zip code before the document moves.

Real-time filing status and conformed copies

Real-Time Filing Status and Conformed Copies

You see when the document is submitted, when the court accepts it, and when a clerk flags a problem. Once the filing is accepted, we return the file-stamped conformed copy that proves it is in. If a courtroom wants a paper courtesy copy in chambers, we deliver that too. The Historic Courthouse clerk’s phone lines are answered from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Rejection handling and filing corrections

Rejection Handling and Corrections

Most rejections trace back to a short list: a missing or unsigned signature block, a proposed order not attached as its own document, a fee that does not match the document, or a PDF that is not text-searchable. We check for those before a filing leaves our hands, and if the clerk still bounces it, you hear the reason and the fix. Riverside adds its own: a filing at a location the August 2026 order no longer uses, or a writ or abstract not sent in its own electronic envelope.

All-inclusive legal support services from OnCall Legal

Full Litigation Support

One office for the whole job. Alongside court filing we serve the documents you file, handle eFiling, retrieve court records, prepare subpoenas, and run messenger service across Riverside County.

Courtesy Copies and Filing Confirmation

Some Riverside judges want a paper courtesy copy delivered to chambers even after a motion is e-filed. When your courtroom requires it, we deliver the courtesy copy. And once the court accepts your filing, we return the file-stamped conformed copy so you have proof on record. General Order 2022-1 sets the timing for late filings: a courtesy copy to the department’s email by 4:00 p.m. the same court day, or by 8:30 a.m. the next court day when filed after 4:00 p.m.

Where Riverside Civil Cases Are Filed Since August 2026

The Riverside Superior Court’s administrative order Where to File Civil Documents, effective August 1, 2026, sends unlimited civil cases to the Riverside Historic Courthouse, the Palm Springs Courthouse or the Menifee Justice Center, which takes Aguanga, Anza, Menifee and Temecula zip codes. Complex cases, class actions and CEQA writs are filed at the Historic Courthouse.

The court’s announcement adds that unlimited cases from Lake Elsinore, Hemet, Winchester, Homeland, Wildomar and Murrieta now go to the Historic Courthouse, and that small claims and unlawful detainers once filed in Banning go to Moreno Valley. Local Rule 3115 keeps later documents in the same courthouse.

    02

Ex Parte Deadlines and the Court Reservation System

Riverside’s General Order 2022-1 has ex parte applications filed no later than 11:00 a.m. the court day before the hearing, with any opposition due by 8:00 a.m. on the morning of the hearing, and the civil division notes that attorneys submit them through their e-filing provider. An ex parte filed with a new complaint is the exception and goes to the counter.

Motions are reserved through the Court Reservation System under Local Rule 3310, and the moving papers must be filed within ten court days or the reservation is cancelled. Rescheduling carries a $20 continuance fee, and motions in limine and default prove-ups cannot be reserved online.

    03

    What Riverside Keeps on Paper

E-filing is mandatory for represented parties, but General Order 2022-1 lists what stays on paper: an ex parte application filed with a new complaint, bonds and undertakings, trial documents under Local Rule 3401 and trial exhibits, new JCCP cases, mandatory settlement conference briefs, notices of appeal, writ returns, subpoenaed records, administrative records and sealed documents. Documents attached to a Notice of Lodgment are lodged in paper form.

Paper filings meet a 4:00 p.m. cutoff at the counter and in courthouse drop boxes; anything left after that is processed the next court day under Rule of Court 2.210.

Frequently Asked Questions About Court Filing in Riverside

Common questions from attorneys, paralegals, and self-represented filers about court filing in Riverside. If your situation isn’t covered, call (310) 858-9800 and the team will walk you through it.
How late can a document be filed on its due date?

For e-filings, a document received by the court before 11:59:59 p.m. on a court day is deemed filed that day under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6, so a deadline can still be met after the clerk’s counter closes. Paper filings have to reach the courthouse window during business hours, so send those as early as you can. In Riverside, documents filed in person or through courthouse drop boxes have a 4:00 p.m. cutoff.

    Is e-filing mandatory in Riverside?

For represented parties in civil cases, yes. Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6 and Riverside’s Local Rule 3118 require represented parties to e-file in limited and unlimited civil actions, unlawful detainers included, as General Order 2022-1 has since January 1, 2022. Self-represented litigants may still file on paper, and a party can ask the court for an exemption. We file both ways and tell you which applies.

How do I know which Riverside courthouse to file in?

The court’s administrative order, effective August 1, 2026, sets the filing locations: unlimited civil at the Riverside Historic Courthouse, Palm Springs or Menifee, and limited civil at Corona, Moreno Valley, Palm Springs, Blythe or Menifee, together with the venue rules of Code of Civil Procedure sections 392 to 401. Give us the case number, the parties or the zip code, and we confirm the correct courthouse before filing.

What happens if the court rejects my filing?

Clerks reject filings for a missing signature, a fee that does not match the document, formatting that breaks the rules, or the wrong venue. When that happens, we contact you with the reason and the correction, then refile as soon as it is fixed. Because we submit early rather than at the deadline, there is usually time to correct and refile. Riverside also rejects filings sent to a location its August 2026 order no longer uses.

Do you handle both electronic and paper filings?

Yes. We file electronically through an approved Electronic Filing Service Provider, and we file on paper at the courthouse counter when a document has to go that way, whether the filer is exempt, an exhibit is oversized, or the portal will not take the document. One call covers whichever route your document needs. Riverside also allows direct fax filing under Local Rule 1050, with the Judicial Council fax cover sheet, form MC-005, as the first page.

What are conformed copies, and do I get them back?

A conformed copy is your document stamped with the court’s file date once the clerk accepts it, and it is your proof the filing is on record. We return the conformed copy after acceptance. If your courtroom also wants a paper courtesy copy in chambers, we deliver that as well.

How do motion deadlines and mail extensions affect my filing date?

Motion notice periods run off the filing and service date under Code of Civil Procedure section 1005, and when you serve by mail, section 1013 extends the other side’s response window based on the mailing date. Tell us your hearing date and we work the filing backward from it, then flag any window that looks too tight before we submit. In Riverside the hearing is reserved through the Court Reservation System, and the papers must be filed within ten court days or the reservation is cancelled.

Can you file physical exhibits the portal will not take?

Yes. When an exhibit is oversized or a document type is one the e-filing portal will not accept, we file it on paper at the correct courthouse and get it to the clerk inside that day’s window. If a case qualifies for a fee waiver, tell us and we file the waiver request alongside the document. Riverside keeps trial exhibits and documents attached to a Notice of Lodgment on paper.

Where is a complex case filed in Riverside County?

At the Riverside Historic Courthouse, 4050 Main Street. The court’s filing order sends complex cases, class actions and CEQA writs there, and the civil division assigns complex cases to Department 1 for all purposes.

What is the Certificate of Counsel in Riverside?

A certificate filed with original pleadings that designates the proper branch of the court, required by Local Rule 3117.

When are Riverside tentative rulings posted?

Under Local Rule 3316, by 3:00 p.m. on the court day before the hearing. A party who wants to argue gives notice by 4:30 p.m. that day.
