Quick answer

Fresno County Superior Court now expects most lawyers to e-file, so we submit your pleadings via an approved EFSP and use the Sisk clerk's window only where paper is still allowed. Since April 1, 2026, the court has run its new e-Court system. After acceptance, you're sent a stamped conformed copy; a rejection reaches you with the correction.

Court Filing in Fresno, CA

Fresno County’s civil work runs through one building, the B.F. Sisk Courthouse on O Street, and in 2026 through a new system as well: the court moved to its e-Court case management system on April 1, 2026, after a month in which it accepted only paper filings for non-criminal matters. A motion filed without a reserved hearing date, a fee short by one motion or a PDF without bookmarks is enough for a clerk to reject the document, and the clerk does not have to warn you before your deadline runs.

On-Call Legal files through a state-approved Electronic Filing Service Provider and on paper at the courthouse counter, and we pick the right channel before your document moves. Most represented parties now file electronically under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6, while exempt parties and certain document types still go on paper. We check the venue, the fee, and the format on our end, because catching a problem before submission costs minutes and catching it at the clerk’s window can cost a day.

Once the court accepts a filing, we return the file-stamped conformed copy. If a clerk rejects it, you hear the reason and the fix from us. Alongside filing, we also serve the documents you file, so a summons can be filed and served through one office. In Fresno, Local Rule 4.1.2A requires represented parties to e-file in civil, family law and probate actions, unlawful detainer initial filings included.

Court Filing Services We Handle in Fresno

On-Call Legal files the full range of California civil documents. Each type carries its own fee, format, and timing rules, and we check all three before a filing leaves our hands. Here is what we take off your desk:

Complaints and Initiating Documents

Filed with the summons and any first-appearance fees the clerk collects, at the courthouse your case is assigned to. In Fresno that means e-filing for represented parties, with unlawful detainer initial filings included under Local Rule 4.1.2A.

Motions, Oppositions, and Replies

Filed to hit the notice periods your hearing date depends on under Code of Civil Procedure section 1005. Under Local Rule 2.2.1, the hearing date is reserved with the law and motion clerk before the motion is filed.

Ex Parte Applications

Filed on short notice where timing is measured in hours rather than days. Under Local Rule 2.7.1, papers are due by 2:00 p.m. the day before a morning hearing, or by 9:00 a.m. on the hearing day for an afternoon hearing.

Answers, Demurrers, and Cross-Complaints

Filed against a service-triggered response deadline so the clock starts clean. Each is filed as a fully searchable PDF with bookmarks to headings and exhibits, as Local Rule 4.1.2D(5) requires.

Proposed Orders, Stipulations, and Judgments

Submitted for the court to review and sign after filing. The court cannot redact documents that are filed electronically, so redaction happens before upload.

Physical Exhibits and Lodged Materials

Hand-delivered to the clerk when an e-filing portal will not accept them. Fresno keeps bonds, undertakings, wills, subpoenaed documents and exhibits too large to transmit on paper under Local Rule 4.1.2E.

If you are not sure which filing your case needs, send us the document and we confirm the venue, the fee, and the format before it goes to the clerk. Call us or order online to get started.

Why On-Call Legal for Court Filing in Fresno

Attorneys and paralegals hiring a Fresno filing service care about three things: getting the document to the right courthouse, meeting the format and fee rules, and hearing about a rejection in time to fix it. On-Call Legal files under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6 for electronic filing and follows each courthouse’s local rules for paper filings. We watch every submission to acceptance and flag a bounce when it comes up. Beyond court filing, the same office serves the documents you file, handles eFiling, retrieves records, prepares subpoenas, and runs messenger runs across Fresno County. On-Call Legal is also on the Fresno County Superior Court’s list of approved e-filing providers.

Rush court filing in Fresno

Rush Filing

Standard jobs go in at the next available window, and rush moves you ahead in the queue when an ex parte or other deadline is close. Under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6, an e-filing that reaches the court before midnight on a court day is deemed filed that day, so a deadline can still be met after the clerk’s counter closes. Paper filings get that day’s date only if the filer enters the clerk’s office during business hours, under Local Rule 1.1.14.

eFiling through an approved provider

eFiling Through Approved Providers

The Fresno County Superior Court does not accept e-filings directly. Under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6 you file through an approved Electronic Filing Service Provider, and represented parties must file most civil documents this way. We file through an approved EFSP, formatted the way the portal expects and paired with the fee the document type requires. On-Call Legal appears on the Fresno County Superior Court’s list of approved e-filing service providers.

Filing at all Fresno courthouses

B.F. Sisk Courthouse Covered

Limited and unlimited civil cases, probate, family law, small claims and unlawful detainers are handled at the B.F. Sisk Courthouse, 1130 O Street. Civil general motions are heard Tuesday through Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Departments 403, 501, 502 and 503, and limited civil motions Wednesday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in Departments 97D and 97E. We confirm the department from the case number before the document moves.

Real-time filing status and conformed copies

Real-Time Filing Status and Conformed Copies

You see when the document is submitted, when the court accepts it, and when a clerk flags a problem. Once the filing is accepted, we return the file-stamped conformed copy that proves it is in. If a courtroom wants a paper courtesy copy in chambers, we deliver that too. The court moved to its e-Court case management system on April 1, 2026.

Rejection handling and filing corrections

Rejection Handling and Corrections

Most rejections trace back to a short list: a missing or unsigned signature block, a proposed order not attached as its own document, a fee that does not match the document, or a PDF that is not text-searchable. We check for those before a filing leaves our hands, and if the clerk still bounces it, you hear the reason and the fix. Fresno adds its own: a motion without a reserved hearing date, or a PDF without the bookmarks Local Rule 4.1.2D(5) requires.

All-inclusive legal support services from OnCall Legal

Full Litigation Support

One office for the whole job. Alongside court filing we serve the documents you file, handle eFiling, retrieve court records, prepare subpoenas, and run messenger service across Fresno County.

Courtesy Copies and Filing Confirmation

Some Fresno judges want a paper courtesy copy delivered to chambers even after a motion is e-filed. When your courtroom requires it, we deliver the courtesy copy. And once the court accepts your filing, we return the file-stamped conformed copy so you have proof on record. For trial, Fresno also holds a Trial Readiness Hearing the Friday before the trial date at 9:30 a.m. in Department 501.

    01

    The 2026 Move to e-Court

Fresno County Superior Court moved to its e-Court case management system effective April 1, 2026. During the changeover, from March 2 through March 31, 2026, the court accepted only paper filings for all non-criminal matters, as its notice explains.

Under Local Rule 4.1.2, represented parties now e-file through the court’s approved providers, as fully searchable PDFs with bookmarks to each heading and exhibit. The court’s e-filing resources page adds that it cannot redact documents that are filed electronically.

    02

Reserving Hearings and Ex Parte Timing

Under Local Rule 2.2.1, a date and time for a law and motion hearing is reserved with the law and motion clerk before the motion is filed, or obtained at the filing counter with the moving papers and fees. Discovery motions also need the statement of compliance required by Local Rule 2.1.17.

Local Rule 2.7.1 sets ex parte deadlines by the hearing time: 2:00 p.m. the day before a morning hearing, or 9:00 a.m. on the hearing day for an afternoon hearing. Tentative rulings are posted by phone and on the court’s website at 3:00 p.m. the day before the hearing.

    03

Remote Appearances and Fax Filing in Fresno

Since July 1, 2026, Fresno no longer requires the RA-020 order on a notice of remote appearance for hearings not related to trial, according to its remote appearance page. When e-filing an RA-010, the court asks for the document name “NOTICE – REMOTE APPEARANCE,” and CourtCall must be booked by 11:00 a.m. on the day of the hearing.

Fax filing is available to self-represented litigants under Local Rule 4.1.1, at $1 a page, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.; a fax received after hours is filed the next business day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Court Filing in Fresno

Common questions from attorneys, paralegals, and self-represented filers about court filing in Fresno. If your situation isn’t covered, call (310) 858-9800 and the team will walk you through it.
How late can a document be filed on its due date?

For e-filings, a document received by the court before 11:59:59 p.m. on a court day is deemed filed that day under Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6, so a deadline can still be met after the clerk’s counter closes. Paper filings have to reach the courthouse window during business hours, so send those as early as you can. In Fresno, a paper filing gets that day’s date only if the filer enters the clerk’s office during business hours.

    Is e-filing mandatory in Fresno?

For represented parties, yes. Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6 and Fresno’s Local Rule 4.1.2A require represented parties to e-file in all civil actions, unlawful detainer initial filings included, and in family law and probate. Self-represented litigants may still file on paper, and a party can ask the court for an exemption. We file both ways and tell you which applies.

Where are civil cases filed in Fresno County?

At the B.F. Sisk Courthouse, 1130 O Street, Fresno, which handles limited and unlimited civil cases, probate, family law, small claims and unlawful detainers. The court’s listed locations are all in the city of Fresno. Give us the case number and we confirm the department before filing.

What happens if the court rejects my filing?

Clerks reject filings for a missing signature, a fee that does not match the document, formatting that breaks the rules, or the wrong venue. When that happens, we contact you with the reason and the correction, then refile as soon as it is fixed. Because we submit early rather than at the deadline, there is usually time to correct and refile. In Fresno a motion filed without a reserved hearing date is another common cause.

Do you handle both electronic and paper filings?

Yes. We file electronically through an approved Electronic Filing Service Provider, and we file on paper at the courthouse counter when a document has to go that way, whether the filer is exempt, an exhibit is oversized, or the portal will not take the document. One call covers whichever route your document needs. Self-represented litigants may also fax civil documents under Local Rule 4.1.1, for $1 a page.

What are conformed copies, and do I get them back?

A conformed copy is your document stamped with the court’s file date once the clerk accepts it, and it is your proof the filing is on record. We return the conformed copy after acceptance. If your courtroom also wants a paper courtesy copy in chambers, we deliver that as well.

How do motion deadlines and mail extensions affect my filing date?

Motion notice periods run off the filing and service date under Code of Civil Procedure section 1005, and when you serve by mail, section 1013 extends the other side’s response window based on the mailing date. Tell us your hearing date and we work the filing backward from it, then flag any window that looks too tight before we submit. In Fresno the hearing date is reserved with the law and motion clerk first, under Local Rule 2.2.1.

Can you file physical exhibits the portal will not take?

Yes. When an exhibit is oversized or a document type is one the e-filing portal will not accept, we file it on paper at the correct courthouse and get it to the clerk inside that day’s window. If a case qualifies for a fee waiver, tell us and we file the waiver request alongside the document. Local Rule 4.1.2E lists exhibits too large to transmit among the items filed on paper.

Is On-Call Legal an approved e-filing provider in Fresno County?

Yes. On-Call Legal appears on the Fresno County Superior Court’s published list of approved e-filing service providers.

When is the Fresno trial readiness hearing?

Under Local Rule 2.5.8, parties attend a Trial Readiness Hearing on the Friday immediately before the trial date at 9:30 a.m. in Department 501.

Can a Fresno remote appearance be booked on the day of the hearing?

CourtCall has to be booked by 11:00 a.m. on the day of the hearing, and the RA-010 notice is e-filed under the document name “NOTICE – REMOTE APPEARANCE.”
